May 29th Newcastle
Happy birthday to me, May 29th Newcastle United Kingdom
We are off to see a wall, according to Josh it is an important wall so off we go to see it. Lovely day here all sunny and for UK standards warm so no scarf and hat in the bag today. Hope I am making a good choice.
Hopefully a drink in town and tonight we dine in the top restaurant La Dame so fingers crossed. Also the big show is before dinner tonight so that will be fun to see. UPDATE: show was pretty good and dinner was lovely. There was a chocolate buffet but we just walked through it as we were full from dinner.
Hadrian’s Wall and Roman fort the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain, designated a World Heritage Site in 1987. The Romans built Hadrian's Wall in circa AD122, defining the northernmost limit of the Roman Empire in Britain at that time.
We then headed to Chesters Roman Fort, Chesters was one of the series of troop bases added to Hadrian's Wall soon after it was built, and it is the best-preserved example of a Roman cavalry fort in Britain. Historians believe it was occupied for nearly three centuries, with several changes of garrison during that time. Also at this site was the Clayton Museum which housed Roman finds and learn about artifacts excavated by John Clayton.
I was not as excited as Bob by this trip but it was lovely and again I saw a few houses that might be lovely to live in, one was right beside the fort so both Bob and I would be happy. Guide said it recently sold for 5mil so will have to save my pennies.
