May 28th Newhaven

 May 28th Newhaven/Edinburgh, Scotland

Today starts off sunny and cool.

Some passengers are not happy today because SS had to change some of the tours.  There is a marathon today in Edinburgh so many streets are closed.  They seem to have added a new tour but we are happy with ours.

We are not really affected since our tour is out of town and we have a cooking class in the afternoon so were not doing in-town time today.  I know it is a lovely city but you have to make choices.

Hoping todays tour will be another good choice.  Although an 8am start time is not ideal for a leisurely start to the day.

Okay lets be clear I am not a history war buff, nor have I stayed awake for the Braveheart movie but off we went since Bob loves this stuff.

We started at Bannockburn Heritage Centre and Battle site, where King Robert the Bruce defeated Edward II of England's forces during the First War of Independence in 1314. So as I said I know nothing but this was well presented by the museum and allowed me to understand and actually get mildly excited about this.  One of the best museum experiences I have seen.

The surrounding landscape was lively and there was a house down the way which I could live in, Bob and I would have to discuss whether we could get sheep.

Then we moved to Stirling Castle, and we needed Ross S with us to tell me about the wonderful plants in the gardens.  Yes the castle is neat but I am really loving the flowers and greenery.

So back on the bus and I will admit that we both might have had a quick nap.

Back at the pier we had fish and chips and someone had a beer.  We missed the cooking class due to the shuttle times but had caviar in the room so that made up for it.

Piano show before dinner and then getting ready for Hadrian’s wall tomorrow.
